This year Andrew and I are trying to do a microadventure every month. To find out more about microadventures and see the microadventure calendar, check out my post, “What is a Microadventure?” Last month we successfully made our way to Harriman State Park for my first winter backpacking trip. It was a lot of fun and we couldn’t wait for our next adventure.
February has been cruel however, and between catching colds and sub-zero temperatures, camping was not a good idea. But we were still determined to have an adventure, so on Valentine’s Day we set out for York, Pennsylvania to revisit the city where we first met, followed by watching the sunset over the Susquehanna River.
Our first stop in York was The White Rose, the restaurant where we had some of our first dates. This place has amazing food and was well worth the drive just by itself.
We had an awesome brunch and then headed across the street to visit York’s Central Market. This is one of the largest indoor farmers markets that I have ever been to. We picked up some Valentine’s Day cookies and took a picture of the Robburito’s food truck.
Just down the street is this old church where Andrew and I happened to be during the 2011 Virginia earthquake. We were watching some friends practice their music set when Andrew told me to stop kicking his chair. Confused, I looked up and saw the ceiling swaying back and forth. Not a great time to be in this very old building.
After our walk down memory lane we still had a few more hours until sunset so we decided to stop in for a tour at the Turkey Hill Experience! There were unlimited ice cream and tea samples, and in the end we got to make our own pint.
Shortly down the road from the Turkey Hill Experience is Chickies rock, a sheer cliffside facing the Susquehanna River. It’s a popular rock climbing area and the overlook offers a beautiful view of the river.
The day had been dark and cloudy, but we set out for our hike anyway, determined to squeeze some adventure out of this month. Just as we began the icy walk to the overlook the sun peaked out and we were able to get a glimpse of the sunset just for a short while.
Although we weren’t able to go camping this month, we still had a great microadventure. We have a lot more adventures planned for 2015, including a road trip to Colorado, and a tour of Ireland. Follow us to stay up to date on our latest trips, adventures and advice!

I love that we both recently went on ice cream tours! I would like to go on an icecreamadventure once a month.
Microadventure, I love that term!! I might have to start using it… but I will reference your blog if I do!
Hey thanks! I actually got the term from a professional adventurer named Alastair Humphreys.
